The club’s penultimate gathering of the 25-26 season featured our spirited competition ‘Guys vs Dolls’, with both sides showcasing their images in a friendly rivalry that sparked laughter, camaraderie, and a touch of playful banter. It was a fun evening, with everyone enjoying the lighthearted challenge… 40 set subjects portrayed by both teams, with guest judge (and self-confessed fan of our competition) Ian Bateman awarding points for each image’s compliance to subject, plus his preferred image in each pair. The scores were neck-and-neck throughout the competition, and, after viewing all 40 topics, was pegged at 59 to Dolls and 60 to Guys. It was all dependent on the final awards - the judge’s overall three favourites. (Drum roll, please...) the Dolls stole the show with points for Gold (3 points) and Bronze (1 point), which changed the scores to 63 to the Dolls and 62 to the Guys and secured the ladies a win for the fifth consecutive year!
Well done Dolls, commiserations Guys and congratulations to Jo Bird (Gold for Beach Huts), Mike Hawkridge (Silver for Green Energy) and Anne Luther-Gandy (Bronze for Mist/Fog) for their awarded images.
Sharing the evening as our guests, were Unto and Marjatta Mentula from Kouvola Camera Club in Finland - one of two teams we share images with in an annual, informal ‘3-Way Exchange’. Currently holidaying in the UK, Unto and Mariatta joined us to experience one of our sessions and meet the members. It was great to welcome them and gifts were swapped in a presentation by SPC’s 3-Way Exchange organisers Diana East and Tony Velterop.
Reflecting on the evening, our Chair, Karen Brindley had this to say “The Guys vs Dolls evening is always a highlight of our season; full of laughter, friendly rivalry, and plenty of spirited banter. This year was extra special with our Finnish guests adding an international twist, and judge Ian ensuring the entertainment was as sharp as the photography! He’s a sucker for punishment and has already signed up to judge next year.”
