On a sun-drenched 16th July, a dozen members of Sidmouth Photographic Club headed east along the Jurassic Coast to Weymouth in neighbouring Dorset for the latest Summer Programme/OSIG day trip. One of Britain's earliest fashionable seaside resorts, the elegant Georgian town combines a sweeping sandy beach and esplanade with a bustling, colourful harbour, offering a wealth of opportunities for photographers. From coastal landscapes and architectural details to candid street scenes and maritime life, there is no shortage of inspiration.
Following an essential early rendezvous for coffee – and naturally, cake – the group dispersed to explore Weymouth at their own pace. Over the next four hours, members wandered the seafront, harbour and surrounding streets, capturing everything from donkeys, deckchairs and sandcastles to lobster pots, shiny yachts, street art and holidaymakers enjoying the hot weather. With the beach filling rapidly and the harbour buzzing with activity, there was always another photograph waiting around the corner.
The group reconvened beside the harbour later in the afternoon to enjoy a well-earned drink, catch up on the day and sneak a look at some of their images before making the journey home. Tired but happy, everyone agreed they had plenty of photographs to remind them of another enjoyable summer outing.
