Salisbury

And so, we arrived at the last summer trip of the 2026 season. This time, the destination was Salisbury. As the scheduled date drew nearer, there were two issues that could have scuppered the whole trip. After weeks of glorious weather, the forecast for the day look ominous, and the revised train timetable from South Western Railways meant a shortened day in Salisbury. In the end, neither caused any great impact.
11 members joined the adventure, which as mentioned, was taken by train. The majority arrived at Honiton Station in plenty of time. Once onboard, stimulating conversations were had about the rationale between train doors and platform allocations plus an insight into Section 33 of the Criminal Justice Act 1972. Who says these trips are all about photography.
Once we arrived in Salisbury, as is customary on all trips, the first stop was for coffee. This had been pre-arranged at Coffee Culture. We were allocated a very nice lounge area for our sole use and coffee and cakes duly ordered and consumed. A very good venue if you are visiting Salisbury.
Following coffee, we dispersed to begin our photography. Many headed for the cathedral to photograph all aspects of the building. One member ventured on the tour of the tower. It will be extremely noticeable when we view the days images, just how many will be of the cathedral and surrounding areas.
At 13:30, we met up at The Bishops Mill for lunch, enjoying pleasant food and a wide variety of beverages. Lunch over and it was back out with our cameras. Some members made the journey across the Water Meadow down to the old weir whilst others remained in the city centre capturing images of other historic buildings. As the temperature had risen significantly, ice cream was the afternoon treat.
Return to Honiton was on the 16:47 train, which although very busy, we all managed to get seats.
A good day out with many positive comments from those that participated.
Focus now shifts to planning the 2027 schedule of trips.
