Slimbridge WWT

Report by Andy Carmichael, Trip Organiser

On a breezy, but mostly sunny Saturday at the end of March, 12 members of SPC’s Outdoor Special Interest Group (OSIG) attended the Wildfowl & Wetland Trust (WWT) at Slimbridge, Gloucestershire for a day's bird photography. Many of the birds are close at hand and are easily photographed with everyday kit, but some, further out on the estuary, require some more specialist lenses possessed by a lucky few. The facilities, as you would expect, are generally excellent - there are plenty of hides dotted around the site, great for watching the bird life and for getting out of the biting wind we experienced on the day. Still, frequent tea breaks were arranged for chat and a warm up - which seemed to go down well.

The day was finished off with a meal at the rather good Tudor Arms, a short distance from the wetlands site. And the M5 traffic behaved itself for once and everyone was home in good time.

All in all a great day out!
