Sidmouth vs Honiton Battle

SPC’s annual photographic ‘Battle’ with Honiton Camera Club took place on Wednesday, 26th March, when ten enthusiastic members from Honiton joined us for an evening of keen competition and camaraderie. The event was judged by John Tilsley (Dorchester Camera Club), whose insightful critique and good humour added greatly to the night’s enjoyment.

20 Prints and 10 Digitally Projected Images (DPIs) in Set Subject categories (see our post earlier in the week) and 30 ‘Open’ images of various styles and genres were each scored out of 10, with additional points awarded at the end for the judge’s top three selections.

Commencing with the Print section, both clubs presented an array of high-quality pictures. Sidmouth hit the ground running, securing an early 9 point lead. The Set Subject DPIs were judged next, and the standard remained impressively high. Both clubs excelled, with four out of the first five images receiving top scores of 9.5 or 10 and by the end of this section, Sidmouth had slightly extended its lead to 10.5 points.

At halftime, attendees spent time socialising and enjoyed a delicious buffet prepared by Sidmouth members.

Returning to the competition, the Open DPI segment brought an exciting variety of styles and techniques. As the final scores were tallied, John selected his top three images, awarding extra points to the authors.

The final scores were announced with much anticipation... Honiton: 255 | Sidmouth: 273.5. Congratulations Sidmouth members - we did it again!

The standard of photography and spirit of friendly competition made for a memorable event. We're already looking forward to next year’s Battle and another thrilling contest!
