On Friday (24th), six club members made the journey to Hestercombe, an historic house and gardens just to the north of Taunton.
We rendezvoused in the car park just before 10:00 to be first in the queue when the doors opened. No, not for the house or gardens, but for the coffee shop! Andy led the way with an order for a toasted teacake and four others followed suit. Once finished, we made tracks for the grand tour… Hestercombe is divided into a formal garden, a large woodland and lakeland area and the house itself. So plenty to photograph. The autumn colours, although not totally dominant were very visible. The weather was mixed, bright sunshine one moment, and then without warning, very heavy showers. The recent rainfall had topped up the lakes but not sufficiently for The Cascade waterfall to be operational.
Back to the coffee shop for a light lunch and a chat and after lunch, another hour’s photography. Hestercombe offered a wide range of landscape photographic opportunities although wildlife was rather limited. That said, a good day out was enjoyed by all.
