About the event
Nick Hodgson is a British documentary landscape photographer.
He graduated from Falmouth University with an MA in Photography in 2020, and is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS).
His first monograph, Free Mines Coal Faces, was published in 2022 by VIKA Books. Martin Parr (Magnum) has endorsed the book, saying "Just when we all assumed mining has gone in the UK, Nick Hodgson finds the Forest of Dean miners, working away. His photos are excellent, he goes down the mines, gets to know the community of miners and the book is highly recommended."
Free Mines Coal Faces was awarded a Silver award in the book category at the 2023 PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris competition; and a Bronze winner, Professional Book - Documentary category - in the 2022 Budapest International Foto Awards. It was selected for display at FORMAT23 photobook market in Derby, at the Belfast Photo Festival 2023 photo book library, and at the 2023 Photo Frome festival. It was also shortlisted in the photography book category at the British Book Design and Production Awards 2023.
Nick was also Overall Winner of the 2022 The Independent Photographer Landscape Photography Competition.
