About the event
About the Author
Kirsty and her husband, Alan, first visited Yellowstone National Park in 1999. At the end of their visit they asked the question ‘how can we keep doing this and get someone else to pay for it?’ The answer was to become tour guides! In conjunction with the Yellowstone Association Institute they took out groups in February each winter. Kirsty, as an Animal Behaviourist, became more and more involved in the research into wolf behaviour and wanted to concentrate on that.
In 2006 they decided they wanted to spend more time in Yellowstone and bought a house in Paradise Valley 30 minutes from the Park. They spent 6 months every year out there. They alternated winters between Dartmoor and Yellowstone. In 2020 with Alan’s diagnosis of Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease they sold their Montana home and returned full time to Dartmoor.
Kirsty still receives daily reports on the wolves of Yellowstone. She was awarded ‘Who Speaks for Wolf’ in 2016 by the International Wolf Centre, the first person outside of the USA to gain this award.
And before you ask – she is not in favour of the reintroduction of wolves to the UK!
